Amara Raja Infra wins Power Grid contract for Tuticorin GIS expansion
Amara Raja Infra Private Limited has emerged as the successful bidder for a Rs 57.13 crore contract awarded by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the extension of the 400/230 kV Tuticorin-II Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Tamil Nadu.
Awarded on August 24, 2026, the contract involves augmentation of the substation with a 1×500 MVA, 400/230 kV ICT (7th) and installation of one 230 kV line bay to provide connectivity to IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited.
The scope covers the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the GIS extension works, along with associated civil works, fire protection systems and terminal connectors required for the transformer installation.
The tender was issued under a domestic competitive bidding process and received five responsive and qualified bids. The other participating firms were Hyosung T&D India Private Limited, Kanti Prashad Mittal, Hartek Power Private Limited and EPC Infracon Pvt Ltd.
Transmission expansion
The Tuticorin-II GIS expansion forms part of PGCIL’s efforts to strengthen transmission infrastructure in southern India. The additional transformation capacity will augment the substation’s capacity, while the new 230 kV line bay will provide connectivity to renewable energy projects being developed by IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited.
IndianOil NTPC Green Energy is a joint venture between IndianOil and NTPC Green Energy Limited.
The contract also includes civil works for the autotransformer foundation, firewall construction and earthing connections. It covers the extension of the existing high-velocity water spray and hydrant system for fire protection.
