Mecpower signs MoU for 5 GWh BESS assembly facility in Gujarat
Mecpower Solutions Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assembly facility at Karjan, with an envisaged investment of around Rs 160 crore.
The Gujarat-headquartered integrated renewable energy infrastructure company plans to use the proposed facility to cater to utility-scale as well as commercial and industrial applications. The investment will expand Mecpower’s presence in energy storage as India increases renewable energy deployment and the requirement for storage to manage intermittency and grid stability grows.
Expansion plan
The proposed 5 GWh facility will add domestic BESS assembly capacity as energy storage assumes a larger role in India’s clean energy and energy security plans. Storage systems can support the integration of variable renewable generation while providing greater flexibility and resilience to the electricity grid.
The project also forms part of Mecpower’s broader growth strategy, with the company seeking to expand its role in India’s energy storage ecosystem and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities.
