L&T secures NTPC order for 2×800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal project
L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal power project in Chhattisgarh.
The Lara Super Thermal Power Project is located at Mahloi, Pussore, in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The Stage-III expansion comprises two 800 MW coal-fired generating units, adding another 1,600 MW of capacity to the national grid. Once completed, the plant’s total installed capacity will double to 3,200 MW.Â
L&T will execute the main plant package on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis using ultra-supercritical technology, which provides higher efficiency and lower specific emissions.
Project scope
L&T’s scope covers the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of boilers, steam turbines, generators, Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), Air Cooled Condensers (ACC) and associated auxiliaries. The package also includes related mechanical, electrical, Control & Instrumentation (C&I), and civil works.
The current award is an LNTP, with the full Notice to Proceed to be issued after the project receives environmental clearance and completion of the LNTP period. Once commissioned, the two units will add 1,600 MW of reliable baseload generation capacity to India’s grid.
Commenting on the award, T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director, Sr. Executive Vice President & Head – Energy Hydrocarbon Division, L&T, said: “This award is our third ultra-supercritical project from NTPC in the past two years, reflects the trust that India’s largest power utility continues to place in our engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities. Over the years, we have developed deep expertise in delivering large-scale projects that are critical to the nation’s energy infrastructure. We remain committed to executing this project with the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational excellence.”
L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions combines engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities with a focus on solutions for power and low-carbon processes. Its in-house capabilities are complemented by collaborations with global engineering and manufacturing companies.
