AFRY India Secures PMC Role for HPPCL’s 191 MW Thana Plaun Hydro Project

AFRY India has signed a contract with Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) to provide Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services for the 191 MW Thana Plaun Hydroelectric Project.

The Rs 15.30 billion project is located near the confluence of Rana Khad and the River Beas. Designed as a storage-cum-run-of-river hydroelectric project, Thana Plaun will add 191 MW of hydroelectric generation capacity while contributing to clean energy development and regional infrastructure. 

Project scope

The Thana Plaun Hydroelectric Project comprises a 105 m-high concrete gravity dam with a power intake, an underground penstock and an underground powerhouse located at the toe of the left bank. The project design also includes underground tailrace tunnels for conveying water from the powerhouse.

As PMC consultant, AFRY India will support the implementation of the hydroelectric project, with its role focused on project execution and engineering requirements. The company said its work on the project will focus on technical standards, safety, sustainability and project delivery.

The 191 MW project will add hydroelectric generation capacity and is intended to contribute to clean energy development and regional infrastructure.
