NPCIL, ECIL sign MoU for indigenous nuclear technology development
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term technology partnership focused on indigenous systems for India’s nuclear power programme.
Both organisations operate under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.
Areas of collaboration
The partnership will cover the development and support of Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems, Computer-Based Systems (CBS), nuclear instrumentation, training simulators, cyber security solutions and other advanced technologies used in nuclear power plants.
The two public sector entities will work together to support both existing and upcoming nuclear power projects, with an emphasis on increasing domestic technological capabilities in critical systems.
Technology focus
According to the announcement, the collaboration is intended to strengthen indigenous technology development and provide long-term lifecycle support for operating nuclear reactors.
The partnership will also address technology obsolescence issues, promote standardisation across key systems and facilitate deployment of secure and reliable technologies for India’s nuclear fleet.
India is currently expanding its nuclear generation capacity through multiple Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) projects, increasing the importance of domestic capabilities in areas such as instrumentation, control systems and cyber security.
The MoU is expected to support the broader objective of enhancing self-reliance in the nuclear sector through greater collaboration between DAE entities.
