Assam’s transmission network set for upgrade with six new projects
Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited (AEGCL) has initiated plans to expand the state’s transmission network with six major projects, including new 400 kV and 132 kV substations, a 400 kV transmission corridor and the reconductoring of existing lines using High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors. The projects are intended to strengthen Assam’s high-voltage grid and support growing electricity demand, with AEGCL now inviting consultants to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).
Network expansion across the state
The proposed projects include a new 400 kV transmission line from Agia to Sonapur, 400 kV substations at Khumtai and Umrangso along with their associated transmission lines, and 132 kV substations at Udharbond and Jonai with associated transmission infrastructure.
AEGCL also plans to upgrade existing transmission corridors through two separate reconductoring packages using new conductors or HTLS conductors to increase power transfer capacity without constructing new transmission lines.
Preparing projects for funding and execution
The utility has floated a consultancy tender to prepare bankable DPRs for all six projects. The scope includes route surveys, DGPS and LiDAR mapping, geotechnical investigations, power system studies, engineering design, environmental and social impact assessments, cost estimates and financial analysis. The DPRs will be prepared for appraisal by lenders such as Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and REC Limited (REC).
The selected consultant will be required to complete the assignment within 90 days of the Letter of Award.
