Suzlon's tallest wind turbine S175 bags first order within two weeks of launch

Suzlon Group has secured the first commercial order for its newly launched S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine from Sunsure Energy. The 105 MW order comes just two weeks after the launch of the S175, which the company describes as India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine.

Under the order, Suzlon will supply, erect, commission and maintain 21 S175 wind turbine generators (WTGs) for a project in Bijapur, Karnataka. The order is Sunsure Energy’s third with Suzlon in less than 14 months, taking the cumulative capacity awarded by the developer to 400.8 MW.

The S175 turbine features a 175-metre rotor and a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower. According to Suzlon, the turbine is designed to access stronger and more stable wind resources, enabling higher energy generation and expanding the range of sites suitable for wind power development.

Sunsure Energy stated that the S175 has been designed to support firm and dispatchable renewable power and facilitate integration with hybrid and round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy solutions.

Sunsure Energy is an independent power producer backed by Partners Group AG with an equity commitment of USD 400 million. The company currently has 800 MW of operational renewable energy assets and 8.30 GW under development across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Karnataka. It has set a target of achieving 10 GW of operational capacity by 2030.

Suzlon Group stated that it has installed 21.7 GW of wind energy capacity across 17 countries. The company reported revenues of more than USD 1.75 billion in FY26 and a market capitalisation exceeding USD 7.5 billion.
