Sterling and Wilson to build one of Egypt’s largest solar projects at 1,000 MWac
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured an order worth approximately USD 560 million for the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt’s Minya Governorate. The project comprises a 1,000 MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) plant integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and is expected to be one of Egypt’s largest utility-scale renewable energy developments.
The order has been awarded to a 50:50 joint venture between SWREL and Hassan Allam Construction through a Letter of Award. The joint venture will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the project, including photovoltaic generation facilities, battery energy storage infrastructure, grid interconnection, transmission works and balance-of-plant systems.
According to the company, this is the third GW-scale order secured by SWREL in the past nine months. The company said the order reflects the increasing scale of utility-scale solar projects and its capability to execute integrated renewable energy projects.
SWREL is a global renewable EPC company with a portfolio of more than 27.3 GWp spanning utility-scale solar, floating solar, hybrid, energy storage and wind projects. The company also manages an operations and maintenance (O&M) portfolio of 13.5 GWp across 28 countries.
