Onward Solar signs BESPA for 45 MW BESS projects in Odisha

Officials from Onward Solar Power and GRIDCO Limited exchange documents after signing the BESPA for 45 MW/180 MWh standalone BESS projects in Odisha.

Onward Solar Power has signed a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with GRIDCO Limited for the development of 45 MW/180 MWh of standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity in Odisha.

The projects were awarded under the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited’s (SECI) auction for six standalone BESS projects with a cumulative capacity of 125 MW/500 MWh in Odisha.

Onward Solar secured two projects with a combined capacity of 45 MW/180 MWh at a tariff of Rs 375,000 per MW per month. Of the awarded capacity, 25 MW/100 MWh will be connected to the Narendrapur grid substation, while 20 MW/80 MWh will be connected to the Tentuli Khunti grid substation.

The projects will be developed under the build-own-operate model.

According to the company, the BESPA agreements were exchanged in the presence of Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Shri Vishal Dev, Managing Director of GRIDCO, Managing Director of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), and representatives of other developers including Coal India Limited.

The projects are being supported through the Ministry of Power’s Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme for standalone BESS development.

The Odisha BESS auction conducted by SECI forms part of broader efforts to support renewable energy integration and grid balancing through energy storage infrastructure.
