Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI) has delivered an indigenously developed 132 kV mobile gas-insulated switchgear (m-GIS) system to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), expanding its portfolio of locally developed mobile substation solutions.

The delivery marks the second indigenous product in TTDI’s mobile GIS portfolio and follows the launch of India’s first indigenously developed 220 kV m-GIS system a few months ago. The company is also progressing with the engineering of an indigenous 400 kV m-GIS system, with delivery expected later this year.

According to TTDI, the 132 kV m-GIS system has been designed with a standardised “connect–operate–disconnect–redeploy” configuration to support greater grid flexibility and operational responsiveness. Its compact and modular design enables rapid deployment in space-constrained locations and is engineered to fit standard transport trailers while withstanding transportation-related mechanical stresses and vibrations.

The system was developed using Toshiba’s global engineering expertise and local manufacturing capabilities in India. The company stated that the product has been designed in line with POWERGRID’s technical specifications as well as its operational, quality, and safety requirements.

Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of TTDI, said the system reflects the company’s commitment to the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative. He added that the solution combines Toshiba’s technology with local engineering and manufacturing capabilities while meeting POWERGRID’s operational standards.

TTDI said the mobile GIS system can be deployed by utilities, renewable energy developers, transmission operators, and disaster response agencies requiring rapidly deployable power infrastructure.
