Officials perform groundbreaking ceremony for Google Cloud AI hub in Visakhapatnam with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel

Google has begun construction of its AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in India’s digital infrastructure to date. The project is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel.

The groundbreaking took place on April 28, 2026 at Tarluvada in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other officials. The project forms part of Google’s $15 billion investment plan for 2026–2030 to build a national AI ecosystem aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

The development includes a gigawatt-scale AI hub comprising three data centre campuses, supported by expanded fibre connectivity under the America-India Connect initiative and a clean energy strategy. AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel will construct the infrastructure, enabling large-scale AI deployment and digital services.

Google said the facility will provide high-performance and low-latency computing capacity to support businesses, research, and AI applications. The project is also expected to contribute to India’s target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 through integration of clean energy sources.

Alongside infrastructure development, the company announced community initiatives focused on water management, maritime livelihoods, digital inclusion, and workforce training. Programmes include watershed restoration, AI and digital skilling, and support for women-led enterprises.

The groundbreaking coincided with the Bharat AI Shakti Conclave, organised with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, to develop a local industrial ecosystem around the project and integrate regional suppliers and enterprises.
