Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in Kenya for the Kenya Transmission Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project.

The entity, Mwanga Transmission Company Limited, has been registered as a private limited company under the Kenyan Companies Act, 2015. The Certificate of Incorporation was issued by the Registrar of Companies in Kenya on April 21, 2026.

The SPV has been promoted jointly by POWERGRID and Africa50. Africa50 holds a 60% equity stake, while POWERGRID holds the remaining 40%.

The development follows the signing of a project agreement with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO). The project is aimed at strengthening Kenya’s transmission infrastructure, improving power evacuation, and enhancing grid stability under a long-term PPP framework.

The project also marks an expansion of POWERGRID’s international presence in transmission consultancy and investment across the African power sector.
