Sarus Infrastructures has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO) to develop a 187.5 MW/750 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Maheswaram substation in Telangana. The project is valued at Rs 10.15 billion.
The BESS will be connected at the 400/220 kV substation level and is required to support one full four-hour charge-discharge cycle daily. It will maintain a minimum annual availability of 95% and achieve a monthly AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85%. A battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) will be signed within 30 days of the LOA, with commissioning scheduled within 18 months from the effective date of the agreement. The BESPA will remain valid for 15 years after commissioning.
TGGENCO will provide land on a right-to-use basis at a nominal lease fee of Re 1 per acre per year. The project will also be eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs 1.8 million per MWh, to be disbursed in three tranches: 20% at financial closure, 50% at commercial operation, and 30% one year after commissioning, subject to certification.
The Maheswaram award is part of TGGENCO’s 375 MW/1,500 MWh BESS auction, under which Coal India secured the remaining 187.5 MW/750 MWh capacity at the Choutuppal substation.
