Officials from NHPC and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited display signed agreement documents during the March 27, 2026 signing ceremony in Jammu for the Uri-I Stage-II (240 MW) and Dulhasti Stage-II (260 MW) hydroelectric projects.

NHPC Limited has signed an implementation agreement with Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDCL) for the development of the 240 MW Uri-I Stage-II and 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II hydroelectric projects in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The agreement was signed on March 27, 2026 in Jammu, as disclosed in a regulatory filing.

The projects will be developed on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis for a period of 40 years. The Uri-I Stage-II project has a planned capacity of 240 MW, while the Dulhasti Stage-II project is planned for 260 MW. Both are expansion phases at existing hydroelectric locations in Jammu & Kashmir.

Under the BOOT structure, NHPC will undertake construction, ownership, and operation during the concession period. The assets will be transferred to JKSPDCL after the completion of 40 years, in line with the agreement terms.

The projects form part of NHPC’s ongoing expansion of its hydropower portfolio in Jammu & Kashmir, leveraging existing infrastructure at the Uri and Dulhasti sites.

Earlier, on February 23, 2026, NHPC approved an investment of Rs 5,702 crore for the two projects, including the Uri-I Stage-II (240 MW) and Dulhasti Stage-II (260 MW) developments, subject to statutory approvals and agreement finalisation.

The signing of the implementation agreement formalises the execution framework and enables the projects to move ahead.

The development comes as NHPC’s existing assets in the region post strong output numbers. The company’s Chutak Power Station in Ladakh recorded its highest-ever annual generation of 204.730 million units (MU) on March 24, 2026, surpassing all previous yearly figures since the station was commissioned in 2013. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, acknowledged the Chutak team for the achievement.
