Suzlon Energy Limited has secured an approximately 100 megawatt (MW) wind energy order from Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), its sixth such order from the public sector undertaking (PSU) and its fourth PSU order in the current financial year, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday.
The project will be executed in the Nandurbar district of Maharashtra, marking the first time Suzlon has worked with GAIL in the state. The two companies have previously collaborated on projects in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat. Power generated from the project will support the decarbonisation of GAIL’s upcoming petrochemical plant in Nandurbar.
Suzlon will supply 47 units of its S120 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each rated at 2.1 MW. The scope of work covers turbine supply, equipment installation, erection, commissioning, and post-commissioning operations and maintenance services.
Suzlon holds approximately 38% of Maharashtra’s 5.8 gigawatt (GW) installed wind capacity, with over 2.2 GW of its own installations in the state.
Ajay Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon Group, said the company re-entered the PSU segment two years ago with a 1.1 GW order from NTPC Limited. PSU and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers now account for over 64% of Suzlon’s orderbook. Earlier PSU orders in the current fiscal year came from NTPC, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Suzlon has a global installed base of approximately 21.5 GW of wind capacity across 17 countries, of which 15.5 GW is in India.
