Japanese electronics and energy components manufacturer TDK Corporation has expressed intent to invest about Rs 4,000 crore in Haryana to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing unit, according to a state government statement issued March 21.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between a TDK delegation, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Union Power Minister Manohar Lal on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The delegation was led by TDK Corporation CEO Fumio Sashida. TDK already operates a 180-acre facility in Sohna, indicating the plan would expand its existing presence rather than establish a new greenfield unit.

State capacity buildout and ecosystem developments

The investment interest comes as Haryana expands its storage ecosystem. The state has been allocated 20 MWh of BESS capacity under the Centre’s Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, with commissioning targeted by July 2027. Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVNL) will implement 10 MWh, while Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) will handle the remaining 10 MWh. The capacity is planned across four 33kV substations at Jaglan, Khira, Siwani, and Bhiwani.

On the manufacturing side, Prostarm Info Systems is developing a 1.2 GWh annual capacity BESS facility at Reliance MET City in Jhajjar, with commissioning expected around end-March 2026.

No timeline, cell chemistry, or production capacity details have been disclosed for the proposed TDK facility. The investment remains at an intent stage, with no formal agreement announced.
