SJVN commissions 70 MW Dhubri solar project in Assam

SJVN Limited has announced the commissioning of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam. The project marks SJVN’s first operational asset in India’s North Eastern Region. It has been developed by its subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), at Rs 367.44 crore and will supply power to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

The solar plant is located in Dhubri district and has been set up on about 330 acres of land taken on lease from APDCL. It is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in the first year of operation and around 3,230 million units over an operating life of 25 years. Power from the project will be supplied at a fixed tariff of Rs 3.92 per unit.

The project was awarded to SGEL through a competitive bidding process in February 2023.SJVN said the plant is intended to support the supply of affordable clean energy in Assam.

The foundation stone for the project was laid virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 04 March 2024 from Adilabad, Telangana. The 70 MW project was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 15 January 2026.  

According to the company, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 158,270 tonnes over its life. It has also generated direct and indirect employment during construction and operations, contributing to local economic activity. SJVN added that the project supports India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
