Suzlon Energy Limited has won its first wind energy order from the ArcelorMittal Group, securing a 248.85 MW project in Gujarat. The order takes Suzlon’s cumulative contribution to green steel projects to around 1,156 MW.

On 28th January 2026, Suzlon informed the stock exchanges that it had received an order from ArcelorMittal through the group’s renewable energy arm in India. The project forms part of a larger 550 MW hybrid renewable energy development in Gujarat and will be used on a captive basis to supply power to ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel facilities.

With this project, Suzlon reinforced its position as the largest wind energy company in Gujarat, where it has an installed wind capacity of 4.5 GW. The company stated that this is its fourth major wind energy order linked to steel sector decarbonisation, reflecting a focused approach to partnering with steel manufacturers on low-carbon energy solutions.

Commenting on the development, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, said renewable energy is increasingly emerging as a competitive power option for energy intensive industries such as steel. JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Suzlon, said the project aligns with the company’s strategy to scale up its Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) business to account for 50% of its order book. Amit Harlalka of ArcelorMittal Sustainable Solutions India said Suzlon’s 30 year operating track record was a key factor in its selection as a clean energy partner.

The Suzlon Group, headquartered in Pune, is a global renewable energy solutions provider with more than 21 GW of wind energy capacity installed worldwide. In India, the company has an installed wind capacity base of 15.4 GW.
