POWERGRID promotes twelve officials to Executive Director roles

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has promoted twelve senior officials to Executive Director roles, effective 25 January 2026, following board approval on the same date. The appointees are classified as Senior Management Personnel, one level below the Board. Key appointments include Abhinav Verma for Rajasthan Projects, Vineeta Agarwal as Chief Executive Officer of Powergrid Energy Services Limited, and Akhilesh Kumar Dixit as Chief Executive Officer of Energy Efficiency Services Limited. The company said each official brings over three decades of experience across transmission, grid operations, human resources, and renewable energy evacuation.

ACME commissions 4 MW at Titoda wind project

ACME Solar Holdings Limited said its subsidiary, ACME Eco Clean Energy Private Limited, has commissioned another 4 MW at its 100 MW Titoda wind project in Gujarat. The commissioning was witnessed by officials from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency and Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited, with formal certification expected shortly. With this milestone, 72 MW of the planned capacity is now operational. The company noted that this follows a series of commissioning disclosures made since October 2025.

KPI Green commissions first 24.2 MW AC tranche of Gujarat solar project

KPI Green Energy Limited announced the early commissioning of the first 24.2 MW AC, equivalent to 34.4 MW DC, of its 250 MW AC and 350 MW DC solar project in Gujarat. The project was awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited through competitive bidding and is contracted for completion by October 2026. The company said the remaining capacity is expected to progress at a similar pace. KPI Green Energy also reported its highest ever quarterly revenue for the seventh straight quarter in Q3 FY26 and a 60% rise in consolidated Profit After Tax for the nine months ended 31 December 2025.

Waaree Renewable to acquire majority stake in Associated Power

Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited approved a binding term sheet to acquire about 55% equity in Associated Power Structures Limited for approximately Rs 1,225 crore. The transaction involves a mix of primary and secondary share purchases and is subject to due diligence and closing conditions, with a target completion date of 30 April 2026. Associated Power Structures operates in transmission and distribution infrastructure and will become a subsidiary upon completion. Separately, Waaree Energies Limited said its subsidiary has incorporated Decarbon X Projects Private Limited as an Independent Power Producer on 22 January 2026.

AGEL commissions 50 MW Khavda solar project, reports nine month financials

Adani Green Energy Limited commissioned a 50 MW solar project at Khavda, Gujarat, through its stepdown subsidiary, with commercial operations starting on 25 January 2026. The commissioning was recorded at 10:49 a.m. on the same day, taking total operational capacity to 17,287.2 MW. In its Q3 FY26 results, AGEL reported a net profit of Rs 5 crore, sharply lower than both the previous quarter and last year. The company attributed the decline mainly to exceptional expenses, while nine-month revenue rose to Rs 8,508 crore.

NLC India completes 300 MW Barsingsar solar project

NLC India Limited said the final 141.17 MW phase of its 300 MW Barsingsar solar project was commissioned on 24 January 2026. A part commissioning certificate for this phase was issued by Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited on the same date. Earlier phases of 52.83 MW and 106 MW became operational in August and November 2025. With the full commissioning, NLC India’s total renewable energy capacity has reached 1,766 MW.

Max Infra leads bid for NHPC’s Dulhasti Stage II hydro project civil works

Max Infra I Private Limited emerged as the lowest bidder for the civil works package of the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage II Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The company quoted Rs 881.49 crore, below bids submitted by Patel Engineering Limited and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited. It was the lowest bidder for both surface and underground works under the EPC package. The project has recently received environmental clearance recommendation from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

India’s power demand rises in December 2025; wind dips, solar jumps: Grid-India

India’s electricity demand increased year on year in December 2025, with evening peak demand touching 208,041 MW, up 8.6% from the previous year. Daily maximum demand reached 241,201 MW on 31 December 2025, with no peak shortage reported. Solar generation rose 43.4% year on year to 14,331 MU, while wind generation declined by about 17.6%. Grid operations remained stable, with frequency staying within the normal band for 77.50% of the month.

Power Minister sets timelines for Pakaldul, Kiru and Kwar hydropower projects

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal directed that the Pakaldul 1,000 MW and Kiru 624 MW projects be commissioned by December 2026. The Kwar 540 MW project has been targeted for completion by March 2028. The directions were issued during a review visit to the Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar on 05 January 2026. The projects are being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited, involving NHPC.

National power distribution ratings show sector-wide gains

The Ministry of Power released the 14th Integrated Ratings and Rankings for distribution utilities for FY 2024–25, covering 65 entities. Torrent Power Ltd. ranked first nationally, with its Ahmedabad and Surat areas scoring 100 and reporting losses below 3%. National AT&C losses declined to 15.04%, while the sector reported a combined Profit After Tax of Rs 2,701 crore, reversing losses in FY24. The report points to gradual improvements in efficiency and financial performance across the distribution segment.

 

EAC clears Balimela, Assam PSP-01 and Rajupalem pumped storage projects

The Expert Appraisal Committee recommended Terms of Reference for the 500 MW Balimela Pumped Storage Project in Odisha and the 800 MW Rajupalem Closed Loop Project in Andhra Pradesh. Amendments were approved for the 900 MW Assam PSP-01 project following layout revisions. The committee also recommended extending the environmental clearance validity for the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project. Proposals for the Assam PSP-02 and Veeraballi projects were deferred, while the Demwe Lower project was returned for revision.

CEA releases roadmap to 100 GW pumped storage by 2035–36

The Central Electricity Authority released a roadmap targeting about 100,810 MW of pumped storage capacity by 2035–36. The plan highlights off-stream closed-loop projects as a key driver due to lower environmental impact and shorter timelines. As of December 31, 2025, India has 7,175.6 MW operational and 11,620 MW under construction. The roadmap proposes policy support, transmission charge waivers, and budgetary assistance to accelerate deployment.

World Bank backs 1,125 MW Dorjilung hydropower project in Bhutan

The World Bank Group approved long term financing for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydropower Project in Bhutan. The project is being developed by Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation under a public private partnership. The financing includes grants and loans from IDA, IBRD, and IFC, totalling several hundred million dollars. Around 80% of the electricity generated is planned to be supplied to India, with Tata Power Trading Company Limited handling imports and distribution.
