DMR Engineering secures hydro consultancy order in Bhutan

DMR Engineering Limited has secured an international consultancy contract valued at Rs 4.60 crore for work on the Jongthang Hydropower Project in Bhutan. The contract has been awarded to the company in association with ERM India Private Limited.

In a regulatory filing submitted on January 16, 2026, DMR Engineering, formerly DMR Hydroengineering and Infrastructures Limited, informed the exchanges that the contract has been awarded by Druk Green Power Corporation Limited of Bhutan. The scope of work includes consultancy services for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the hydropower project. The execution period is 12 months, and the contract value is Rs 4,60,30,455, inclusive of all applicable taxes.

The Jongthang project is a significant 237 MW initiative within Bhutan’s Renewable Energy Development Roadmap (REDR) 2024. Bhutan’s Energy Minister, Gem Tshering, announced in February 2024 that the project is targeted for commissioning by 2034, pending detailed feasibility studies and financing. The REDR focuses on closing the energy demand-supply gap, reducing import dependency, and strengthening long-term energy security with plans to add 15,000 MW of hydropower and 5,000 MW of solar capacity by 2040.
