NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced the approval of a new joint venture with GAIL (India) Limited and the commissioning of a large solar power project in Rajasthan, marking two additions to its renewable energy portfolio.
At a board meeting held on January 15, 2026, NGEL approved the formation of a 50:50 Joint Venture Company (JVC) with GAIL (India) Limited. The proposed joint venture is subject to the receipt of required government and regulatory approvals and will focus on the development and execution of renewable energy projects.
In a separate update, NGEL declared the commercial operation of the first 300 MW portion of the 500 MW Bhadla Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project located at Phalodi in Rajasthan. The commissioning certificate was issued jointly by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) on January 14, 2026, with commercial operation effective from January 13, 2026.
Following this commissioning, the commercial capacity of the NGEL group has increased to 8,010.28 MW. The total installed capacity of the NTPC group now stands at 87,287 MW, while its total commercial capacity has reached 86,207 MW.
