ReNew Energy Global Plc announced that it has signed a long term agreement with Google to support the development of a new 150 MW solar power project in Rajasthan. Under the agreement, Google will procure the project’s energy attributes, a step that supports project bankability and contributes to Google’s efforts to address value chain emissions. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2026.
The 150 MW solar project is expected to generate around 425,000 MWh of electricity every year. This is equivalent to the annual power consumption of more than 360,000 Indian households. With this agreement, ReNew’s committed commercial and industrial portfolio has expanded to 2.7 GW, strengthening its position in India’s corporate clean energy market.
ReNew Energy Global Plc stated that the long term procurement arrangement enables the addition of new renewable capacity to the grid while supporting India’s broader energy transition. The company highlighted that such agreements play a key role in mobilising private capital for renewable energy development.
Commenting on the development, Vaishali Nigam Sinha, Co founder and Chairperson Sustainability at ReNew Energy Global Plc, said the partnership reflects growing confidence in India’s clean energy ecosystem and ReNew’s ability to deliver large scale climate focused solutions. She added that long term agreements help create new renewable capacity while supporting sustainability commitments of global companies.
Vrushali Gaud, Global Director Climate Operations at Google, said clean and affordable electricity is central to Google’s growth plans for its infrastructure and value chain. She noted that the agreement brings new solar capacity to the grid in a key region and supports efforts to address value chain emissions, while contributing to India’s clean energy journey.
