Solex Energy has started commercial production at its 2.2 GW solar module facility in Surat. The company confirmed in a regulatory filing that production began on November 24, 2025.
Managing Director Chetan Shah recently outlined the company’s plan to shift from TOPCon to TOPCon Plus and back contact technology. He said this move supports Solex Energy’s long term roadmap to strengthen rear contact technology in its product line. He also noted that ISC Konstanz in Germany is guiding the company on its technology strategy and future cell manufacturing roadmap.
The company has adjusted its manufacturing focus in line with the upcoming Approved List of Cell Manufacturers regime. From July 1, 2026, most projects will use DCR modules, which has pushed firms to expand cell manufacturing. India is expected to reach 50 to 60 GW of cell capacity by the end of 2026, compared with more than 150 GW of module capacity. Many companies risk running module lines without matching cell output and are accelerating their shift toward cell production.
Shah said the company has planned resource needs, including water, for its upcoming solar cell plant. He added that the institute will track performance and quality, helping Solex Energy scale its line efficiently. The company is targeting commissioning of its 2.2 GW N Type TOPCon Plus cell line by March 2027.
