The Union Cabinet has cleared a six-year, Rs 1,500 crore incentive scheme to boost domestic recycling of critical minerals from secondary sources.
Part of the National Critical Mineral Mission, the scheme will support extraction from e-waste, lithium-ion battery scrap, and end-of-life vehicle parts.
Incentives include a 20% capital subsidy for new and expanded units, and operating subsidies linked to sales. Large entities can claim up to Rs 50 crore, while small entities are capped at Rs 25 crore.
The government expects 270 kilo ton annual recycling capacity, 40 kilo ton of critical mineral output, Rs 8,000 crore investment, and 70,000 jobs. Industry leaders called it a major step toward mineral security and the circular economy.
