Serentica Renewables will set up one of India’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Rajasthan through a partnership with Shanghai Gotion Digital Energy Tech Co. The 50 megawatt (MW) / 200.6 megawatt hour (MWh) facility will be located in Bikaner and is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2025. This marks Serentica’s first venture into BESS.
Akshay Hiranandani, CEO of Serentica Renewables, said the project is a major step for India’s energy sector. He noted that falling storage costs and scaling advances are making Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable energy more competitive against thermal generation.
Serentica is also developing co-located projects combining wind, solar, and storage.
The company has earmarked about Rs 27,000 crore for solar, Rs 45,000 crore for wind, and a strategic Rs 7,500 crore for storage. While smaller in size, the storage investment enables firm dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) and maximises renewable utilisation.
