The Union Power Ministry has identified six major hydropower projects in the Northeast as vulnerable.
According to Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) classified these projects as vulnerable because they are situated above 1,500 metres and located as the first projects in their respective river basins in the upper Himalayan region. Such conditions increase exposure to flash floods, landslides, and other climate-related risks.
The projects listed are: Lower Subansiri (2,000 MW, under construction) in Arunachal Pradesh; Panyor Lower (405 MW, commissioned) and Kameng (600 MW, commissioned) in Arunachal Pradesh; Rangit (60 MW, commissioned), Chuzachen (110 MW, commissioned), and Tashiding (97 MW, commissioned) in Sikkim.
