The Trump Administration has cancelled the $7 billion Solar for All grant program for low-income and disadvantaged households. The move follows the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which removed the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund that had authorised the program.
On August 8, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said the agency no longer had statutory authority to operate the program or spend the funds. The EPA informed 60 contracted awardees, and access to the federal grant portal was disabled.
This is the latest in a series of actions scaling back renewable energy initiatives. In May, the Department of Energy began reviewing 179 clean energy grants worth more than $15 billion. The EPA has also proposed reversing the Endangerment Finding on greenhouse gases, while the new law sharply reduces federal solar tax credits.
On August 2, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum ordered officials to prioritise nuclear, gas, and coal projects over wind and solar on federal lands, which cover about 480 million acres, including 80 per cent of Nevada. The order cites capacity density and environmental impact as assessment criteria.
Author: PPD Team Date: January 28, 2025 The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects that solar power will lead the growth in US power generation through 2027. In its latest short-term energy outlook, the EIA estimates utilities and independent power producers will add 26GW of solar capacity in 2025 and 22GW in 2026, following a record 37GW added in 2024. Wind power is also expected to grow, with 8GW forecasted in 2025 and 9GW in…
