World Bank approves $134 million for green hydrogen hub in Brazil

The World Bank has approved a $134 million operation to support the green hydrogen strategy of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex Company (CIPP) and the Government of Ceará. Located in Northeastern Brazil, CIPP is one of the country’s most advanced logistics and industrial zones and is emerging as a key site for green hydrogen development.
The financial package is structured under the World Bank’s Investment Project Financing instrument. It includes a $90 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), a $9 million grant from the IBRD Surplus-Funded Livable Planet Fund, a $33.5 million loan from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) under the Renewable Energy Integration Program, and a $1.5 million CIF REI grant.
According to Max Quintino, president of the Pecém Complex, the World Bank’s involvement marks a significant step forward. “This support from the World Bank represents a historic milestone for the Pecém Complex and Ceará. We are making concrete progress in consolidating the green hydrogen hub, which positions Brazil as a leader in the global energy transition. This initiative strengthens our infrastructure, attracts investment, and creates real opportunities for the people of Ceará.”
