The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) and Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (HPPTCL) are set to expand the state’s transmission network with 15 new substations. This includes five 66 kV substations and ten higher-capacity units of 132 kV and 220 kV.
The initiative follows directions from the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (HPERC) to strengthen grid infrastructure across the state.
Currently, Himachal Pradesh operates 19 substations with a combined transformation capacity of 3,944 MVA. Transmission line development is also progressing. Himachal now has 39 projects covering 1,057.5 circuit kilometres. These range from the legacy 66 kV Pinjore–Parwanoo line (1956–57) to the 220 kV double-circuit Dehan–Hamirpur line in Kangra, commissioned in June 2022 and spanning nearly 116 ckt km.
