REC PDCL invites bids for transmission system linked to 2,000 MW solar park in Karnataka
Author: PPD Team Date: June 19, 2025
REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL) has issued a Request for Proposal (RfP) for selecting a transmission service provider (TSP) on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The project supports evacuation of power from a planned 2,000 MW solar park at Ryapte in Tumkur district, Karnataka.
The bidding will follow a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. REC PDCL is acting as the bid process coordinator. The last date for submission is August 12, 2025.
The project involves the following components:
Substations
- Establishment of a 5×500 MVA, 400/220 kV air-insulated substation (AIS) at Ryapte, with two 125 MVAr, 400 kV bus reactors and associated bays. Space provision has been included for future ICTs, line bays, and reactors.
- Development of a 3×500 MVA, 400/220 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote, including two 125 MVAr, 400 kV bus reactors. Future capacity expansion has also been planned at this site.
- Outdoor GIS termination bays to be installed at existing substations at Kolar, Ekarajapura, and Sarjapura, to enable integration with the new lines.
Transmission lines
- 400 kV double-circuit (DC) transmission line using quad moose conductors from the proposed Ryapte substation to Doddathaggalli GIS substation.
- 400 kV DC line from existing Kolar substation to Doddathaggalli GIS substation, including extension of existing AIS busbars.
- 220 kV DC line from Doddathaggalli to existing Malur substation with two termination bays at Malur.
- 220 kV DC lines or underground cables from Doddathaggalli to Ekarajapura, Hosakote New, and Sarjapura substations, with associated termination bays.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) will provide land at Ryapte and Doddathaggalli for the substations. The selected TSP will be responsible for coordination with KPTCL for land acquisition.
