JSW signs PPA with UPPCL for 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage

JSW Neo Energy Limited, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh of pumped hydro storage projects (PHSPs) in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. The agreement spans 40 years with a fixed annual capacity charge of Rs 7.72 million per MW.
The PHSPs will enable a scheduled discharge of 8 hours per day, with a maximum continuous discharge period of 6 hours. The projects are expected to be commissioned within six years.
With this agreement, JSW Neo Energy’s committed energy storage capacity has reached 28.3 GWh, including 26.4 GWh from PHSPs. The company targets 40 GWh of total energy storage capacity by 2030.
