Avaada Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Water Resources Department of Maharashtra to develop two pumped storage hydro projects (PSHPs) with a combined capacity of 3,650 MW.
The projects include the 2,400 MW Pawana Falyan pumped storage project and the 1,200 MW Sirsala project. Together, they are expected to attract investment worth Rs 151 billion and create over 3,800 direct jobs in the region.
These pumped storage projects will support Maharashtra’s renewable energy goals by enabling reliable, round-the-clock power. The Pawana Falyan project alone will supply six hours of peak power daily, using off-peak periods for nearly seven hours of water pumping.
The Pawana Falyan project is located across the Pune and Raigad districts. It will create two artificial reservoirs, the upper one near Kurvande village in Mawal taluka (Pune district), and the lower one near Falyan village in Sudhagad tehsil (Raigad district). The project will need around 204 hectares of land, of which about 63% will be forest land. The estimated cost of the Pawana Falyan project is Rs 60.91 billion. The timeline for civil works is about 36 months.
