Since FY 2014-15, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has carried out street light installations across the following States and Union Territories, with the state-wise installation details recorded as of March 31, 2025 shown below:
So far, the 2015 launched Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) has installed 13.1 million LED streetlights. As a result, 8.8 billion kWh of electricity has been saved, leading to approximately Rs 61.78 billion in monetary savings for municipalities and gram panchayats.
The programme runs on self-financing mode by EESL as its implementing agency. Many states and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) still owe EESL a large sum of money for the work done under the program. As of March 31, 2025, the total unpaid amount is around Rs 27 billion, not including any Delayed Payment Surcharge.
This delay in payments has become a serious challenge for EESL, which affects its cash flow and ability to smoothly carry out future projects. To resolve this, both EESL and the Ministry of Power (MoP) are actively working with the concerned States and Union Territories, pushing them to speed up the payment of these outstanding dues.
