The Ballinagree wind farm, a 50:50 joint venture between FuturEnergy Ireland (a Coillte-ESB partnership) and Danish developer Ørsted, has received planning approval.
Located between Millstreet and Macroom in County Cork, the project will feature 16 wind turbines, each 185m tall, with a total capacity of 112MW.
Once operational, the wind farm is expected to power 73,000 homes annually and offset 3.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifetime.
A community benefit fund of up to €580,000 per year for the first 15 years will be established to support local initiatives.
Subject to grid connection delivery and final investment approval, the wind farm aims to be operational by 2030, aligning with Ireland’s target of sourcing 80% of its electricity from renewables by the same year.
Ørsted is also advancing additional renewable energy projects in the region, including the Ballinrea solar farm and Coom Green Energy Park. Alongside FuturEnergy Ireland, Ørsted plans to keep the local community informed throughout the project development stages.
