Poseidon Cables has secured a contract with NCT Offshore to provide cable pre-rigging and pull-in services for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
Located 35-60km offshore Changhua County, the project will become Taiwan’s largest wind power complex, generating electricity to supply one million households annually.
Poseidon Cables’ role involves preparing and pulling in inter-array cables, a critical step toward operationalizing wind farms. This contract underscores Poseidon Cables’ standing as a key player in subsea cable solutions for offshore renewable projects.
NCT Offshore, awarded the cable installation contract in 2023, will commence work in 2025. The wind farms, with a combined capacity of 920MW, are a major component of Taiwan’s renewable energy ambitions.
Ørsted, the developer, previously inaugurated the 900MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a wind farms in 2024, doubling Taiwan’s offshore wind power output. Ørsted has also secured long-term revenues for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 through a corporate power purchase agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), marking the largest renewable energy CPPA in history.
The project is funded by Ørsted’s capital and domestic debt sourced in Taiwan, supported by a parent company guarantee.
