Torrent Power reports reduced T&D losses in major licensed areas
Torrent Power has reported a reduction in transmission and distribution (T&D) losses across most of its licensed and franchised distribution areas for the first half (April to September) of FY25.
In the Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar licensed area, T&D losses dropped from 6.30% in H1 FY24 to 4.50% in H1 FY25. Similarly, losses in the Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu licensed area declined from 1.67% to 1.62%. Together, these two areas accounted for about 62% of Torrent Power’s total electricity purchases in H1 FY25.
Franchised areas also saw a decline in T&D losses, except for Bhiwandi in Maharashtra, where losses rose from 9.9% in H1 FY24 to 10.9% in H1 FY25. Overall, Torrent Power’s weighted T&D loss across all regions reduced from 5.7% in H1 FY24 to 5.3% in H1 FY25.
Torrent Power is actively exploring brownfield acquisition opportunities in the transmission sector to strengthen its position and selectively participating in greenfield ISTS and InSTS projects under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework. The company’s initial ISTS-TBCB project, “Solapur Transmission Ltd,” involves a Rs 4.7 billion investment in Maharashtra and is expected to complete by FY26. In addition, Torrent Power Grid Ltd, a 74:26 joint venture with PGCIL, is developing a 400 kV transmission project in Gujarat’s Khavda region for RE evacuation, estimated at Rs 8 billion and scheduled for completion by March 2025.
Torrent Power’s current operational transmission portfolio spans approximately 483 km, covering 400 kV and 220 kV double-circuit lines.
