UAE’s Masdar has entered a joint study agreement with Sarawak Energy and Gentari to evaluate the feasibility of a floating solar power plant at the Murum Hydroelectric Plant reservoir in Sarawak, Malaysia. The study will assess the technical feasibility, environmental impact, and economic viability of the project.
If implemented, the floating solar plant would strengthen Sarawak’s renewable energy capacity and set a regional example for floating solar solutions.
Sarawak Energy Group CEO Datuk Sharbini Suhaili noted that the project would complement their current investments in renewable technologies, including the Batang Ai floating solar farm, anticipated to offset 52 kilotonnes of CO2 emissions annually upon commissioning.
Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi highlighted that this agreement builds on Masdar’s 2023 partnership with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority for the development of 10 GW of clean energy projects nationwide.
