Uttar Pradesh targets 14,000 MW solar power

Uttar Pradesh is advancing its renewable energy goals by partnering with energy firms to establish floating solar power plants, aiming to reach 14,000 MW of solar power generation by 2027.
Under the ‘PM Surya Ghar Yojana’, the state targets connecting 2.5 million households to solar energy. Floating solar projects are planned for seven reservoirs, in collaboration with NTPC, Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), according to a government official.
The state has attracted investment proposals totalling Rs 7 trillion in new and renewable energy, including Rs 570 billion under the UP State Bio-Energy Policy 2022. Additionally, large-scale solar projects, such as solar parks with a combined 4,800 MW capacity, are under development, with the tendering process underway.
Uttar Pradesh is also enhancing rural solar access through the ‘PM-KUSUM Yojana,’ which aims to generate 2,000 MW of solar energy by 2027 via solar installations on vacant rural land. To date, 48,000 homes have been equipped with solar panels, with another 30,000 installations expected by the close of FY 2024-25.
