Tattarang’s Squadron Energy has secured approval from the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission (IPC) to construct the Spicers Creek Wind Farm, a 700MW renewable energy project in Wiradjuri Country, 25km north-east of Wellington within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).
The project will include up to 117 wind turbines, battery storage, and supporting infrastructure, marking it as one of the largest wind farms approved in NSW.
Once operational, Spicers Creek is expected to supply electricity to over 395,000 homes, with an estimated reduction in carbon emissions of around 650,000 tonnes per year. The development will generate over 330 jobs and contribute $46.9 million to the regional economy.
Squadron Energy’s head of project development, Trish McDonald, emphasized the project’s regional benefits and ongoing community engagement as the team finalizes design and management plans to make the project shovel-ready.
Earlier this year, Squadron Energy commenced work on the 414MW Uungula Wind Farm, also located in the CWO REZ, 14km east of Wellington, on Wiradjuri land.
