Tata Power reported reduced Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses in its Odisha power distribution business during the first half of FY25.
The investor presentation indicated improvements in two of the four discoms, TPCODL and TPSODL, while AT&C losses in TPWODL remained constant and slightly increased in TPNODL.
Overall, AT&C losses across the Odisha discoms, weighted by electricity purchase volume, decreased to 22.6% in H1 FY25 from 23.9% in H1 FY24.
Electricity purchases rose to 19,540 MU, a 3.9% increase over 18,806 MU in H1 FY24, while sales grew 5.2%, resulting in lower technical losses of 18.5%, down from 19.6% in H1 FY24.
Tata Power operates its Odisha distribution business through four joint ventures, holding a 51% equity stake, while the Odisha government retains 49%. The discoms serve 4.15 crore people over 1.54 lakh sqkm, with a customer base of 9.48 million.
By September 2024, Tata Power installed 8.34 lakh smart meters, with TPWODL leading at 3.33 lakh meters, around 40% of the total. Digital meter installations replaced 33 lakh conventional meters, and 753 substations were automated across the discoms.
