SSE Renewables begins construction on 320 MW BESS project in UK

SSE Renewables has commenced construction on its largest battery energy storage system (BESS) at Monk Fryston, North Yorkshire. The 320MW facility will be one of the largest in the UK, providing electricity for over half a million homes for up to two hours during periods of high demand upon completion in early 2026.

The groundbreaking ceremony included representatives from SSE Renewables, Morrison Energy Services, and Sungrow, the energy storage supplier. Sungrow’s advanced storage solutions will support the UK’s net zero goals by enhancing grid stability and energy resilience.

This project follows the successful operation of SSE’s first 50MW BESS in Salisbury, with additional projects at Ferrybridge and Fiddler’s Ferry under construction.

UJVN has announced a tender for the electro-mechanical works of the 3×100 MW Lakhwar Multi-Purpose Project (MPP) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract is valued at Rs 5.958 billion and includes detailed design and engineering, manufacturing, shop assembly, testing, transportation, delivery, site storage, preservation, and a two-year guarantee for the electro-mechanical equipment and systems.
