TotalEnergies has partnered with Air Liquide to develop a renewable hydrogen production unit at its La Mède biorefinery in southeast France.
The renewable hydrogen will support biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
The project involves an investment of €150 million, with production expected to commence in 2028.
It aligns with TotalEnergies’ broader decarbonization strategy, including the Masshylia green hydrogen project with ENGIE, where a 20 MW electrolyser is planned for 2029, subject to regulatory approvals and subsidies.
In September 2023, TotalEnergies also signed a long-term agreement with Air Liquide to supply green and low-carbon hydrogen to its Gonfreville refinery in Normandy.
