Ireland’s EirGrid awards contracts for renewables integration technologies

Ireland’s electricity grid operator, EirGrid, has awarded contracts for the deployment of synchronous condensers to support the integration of renewable energy and maintain grid stability as Ireland transitions to cleaner energy sources.  These contracts for low carbon inertia services (LCIS) will help balance the grid by providing 6,963 MVA of synchronous inertia, reactive power support, and short-circuit strength without generating active power. The contracts were awarded to Quarry Lane Stability in Sligo and Glencloosagh Energy…

SSE and FuturEnergy submit plans for Irish wind farm

SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland have submitted a planning application for the 122 MW Cummeennabuddoge wind farm to An Bord Pleanala, Ireland’s national planning authority. The project, located 5km northwest of Ballyvourney on the Cork-Kerry border, aims to power 81,900 homes annually and contribute to Ireland’s clean energy goals. The 17-turbine wind farm could produce 375,000 MWh of electricity per year, displacing 4.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifespan. The project will generate…
