Renewable energy company RES has agreed to sell the 436.5MW Tarong West Wind Farm in Queensland, Australia, to Stanwell, making it the largest publicly owned wind farm in the country.
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke highlighted the project’s role in advancing Queensland’s renewable energy goals, aiming for 9-10GW of large-scale wind and solar capacity by 2035.
The project, located in South Burnett, received development approval and is set to feature 97 turbines, generating enough power for 230,000 homes. Construction is expected to create 200 direct and hundreds of indirect jobs. The Queensland Government has committed A$776.1 million to the project, with a final investment decision slated for early 2025.
