Prysmian, a leading manufacturer of energy and telecom cables, has entered into a framework agreement with Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), France’s transmission system operator, to provide submarine power cable links for two offshore wind farms—the Fos and Narbonnaise projects.
These links will connect the offshore farms to the French national grid.
The agreement includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCI) of both submarine and land cable segments.
The projects are expected to be finalised between 2026 and 2027, with delivery and commissioning scheduled for 2031 to 2032.
The combined value of the projects is estimated at €700 million ($735.5 million).
Each project will feature three high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) 225kV export cables with XLPE insulation and synthetic armour. The land cables will total 400km in length, manufactured in Gron, France, while the submarine cables (240km) will be produced at Prysmian’s facilities in Arco Felice, Italy, and Pikkala, Finland. The Fos project will require 300km of cables, and the Narbonnaise project will need 340km. Both projects will have a 750MW capacity.
In November 2024, Prysmian also partnered with TechnipFMC to advance floating offshore wind energy development.
