On February 17, 2025, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for two inter-state transmission projects under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model. These include:
Transmission Scheme for integration of Davanagere / Chitradurga and Bellary REZ in Karnataka
The scheme will be executed in two parts. The first involves integrating the Davanagere/Chitradurga Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) by establishing a 765/400kV pooling station with 4×1500 MVA transformers and a 400/220kV station with 4×500 MVA transformers. It includes LILO of the Narendra New–Madhugiri 765kV line at Davanagere/Chitradurga, installation of 2×330 MVAr bus reactors, and voltage upgradation of key 765kV lines. The second part focuses on integrating the Bellary REZ with a 4×500 MVA, 400/220kV pooling station, constructing a 400kV double circuit transmission line between Bellary and Davanagere/Chitradurga, and installing 2x125MVAr bus reactors. The estimated cost is Rs 34 billion, as per the National Committee on Transmission (NCT).
Augmentation at Fatehgarh-II PS, Fatehgarh-IV PS (SectionII) and Barmer-I PS
The augmentation includes installing one 1500 MVA, 765/400kV interconnecting transformer (ICT), five 500 MVA, 400/220kV ICTs, and the necessary 765kV, 400kV, and 220kV ICT bays. The estimated cost is Rs 4.04 billion, as per the NCT.
Acquisition of two special purpose vehicles (SPVs)
On February 18, 2025, POWERGRID acquired two SPVs for two transmission projects:
- Bidar Transco Limited (BTL) for the project Augmentation of transformation capacity by 3×500 MVA, 400/220kV ICTs (6th – 8th) and 1×1500 MVA,765/400kV ICT (4th) at Bidar PS. The estimated cost is Rs 2.8 billion.
- Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission Limited (KVB1B2PTL) for thr project Augmentation of transformation capacity at KPS1 (GIS) and KPS2 (GIS) (Phase-V Part B1 and Part B2 scheme). The estimated cost is Rs 4.6 billion.
POWERGRID received the LoI for these two Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) projects under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route on January 6, 2025.
