Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has been declared the successful bidder for an interstate transmission system (ISTS) project to evacuate renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase IV. PGCIL will establish the project under tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis.
The project, named “Transmission System for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Phase IV (Part 2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex): Part H1,” will involve building a 765/400/220kV substation at Kurawar, Madhya Pradesh, along with 765kV and 400kV double-circuit transmission lines and extensions at other substations in the region. The project, estimated at Rs 36 billion, is scheduled for completion within 24 months of the SPV transfer date.
PGCIL was selected over competitors Sterlite Power, Adani Energy Solutions, and Tata Power. The project is managed by “Rajasthan IV H1 Power Transmission Ltd,” a subsidiary of REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).
Despite being part of the Rajasthan REZ, the transmission infrastructure will be located in Madhya Pradesh, with PGCIL coordinating efforts with the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL). Key elements include the new Kurawar substation and several 765kV and 400kV transmission lines to enhance grid connectivity.
