Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is set to dominate the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) components of the “Transmission System for Rajasthan REZ Phase IV (Part 2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/Barmer)” interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme.

This massive scheme, divided into nine components, includes seven TBCB-based sections and two non-TBCB components (Part G and Part H2). PGCIL has formally won four components—Part B, Part C, Part D, and Part E—and was recently declared the successful bidder for Part H1. The final results for Part F are pending, where PGCIL is competing against Adani Energy Solutions Ltd and Sterlite Power.

If PGCIL wins Part F, it will control six of the seven TBCB components. The project aims to evacuate 5.5 GW of solar power from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and Barmer regions. While most of the project is Rajasthan-centric, some elements, like Part H1, are situated in Madhya Pradesh due to revisions in the project scope.

The total cost of the TBCB components is estimated to exceed Rs 200 billion, with a 24-month implementation timeframe. Notably, Apraava Energy secured Part A, and the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) project Part H2, a minor Rs 10 million augmentation work, was awarded to India Grid Trust (IndiGrid).

The project’s scope has been modified to address concerns regarding the potential habitat of the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) in Part G, which has been put on hold.
