NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) to jointly develop thermal and renewable energy projects. The agreement is intended to meet NALCO’s long-term power requirements through cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.
The MoU was formalised on February 14, 2026, in Mahabalipuram in the presence of senior officials from both Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). NLCIL was represented by Chairman and Managing Director Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Director (Human Resources) Shri Samir Swarup, Director (Finance) Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, and Director (Planning & Projects) Shri Rajesh Pratap Singh Sisodia. NALCO was represented by Director (Projects & Technical) Shri Jagdish Arora. Shri A. Murugan, General Manager (Commercial), signed the MoU on behalf of NLCIL, while Shri Nagarajan Ravi, Executive Director (Business Development), signed for NALCO.
The agreement provides a structured framework for cooperation between the two companies. It covers a proposed 1200 MW thermal captive power project and related renewable energy initiatives. The objective is to secure NALCO’s captive and long-term power needs while maintaining supply reliability.
The collaboration will also examine long-term power procurement arrangements, including captive and group captive structures. Coal supply agreements are proposed to support fuel security. The MoU allows for joint project development, which may include the formation of a joint venture company.
The partnership reflects inter-CPSE cooperation focused on optimising national resources and strengthening energy supply for industrial operations. For NLCIL, the agreement aligns with its ongoing capacity expansion plans.
