Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has secured a contract to supply gas and steam turbines for a new 500 MW gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in Sarawak, Malaysia. The contract includes the M701F gas turbine and accompanying steam turbine and was signed with Sinohydro Corporation, the project’s engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contractor.

Mitsubishi Power will also provide auxiliary equipment and technical advisors for the installation and commissioning process. The gas turbine is designed to co-fire fuel with up to 30% hydrogen, making it the most advanced power generation facility in Sarawak.

The GTCC plant, owned and operated by PETROS Power, a subsidiary of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), will be located in Miri, a strategic gas hub. Mitsubishi Power has established a long-term service agreement with PETROS to ensure stable performance once the plant begins commercial operation.

The generators for the plant will be produced by Mitsubishi Generator, formed through the merger of MHI and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s power-generator systems businesses. The Miri GTCC power plant is part of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap, aimed at transforming Sarawak into a high-income state by 2030, bolstering energy security for Northern Sarawak and supporting the region’s growing power demands.

In February 2024, Mitsubishi Power received an order from JSC Thermal Power Plants to provide a GTCC system for the Navoi 3 project in Uzbekistan.
